First Post for Fall 2012 303B Class!

                                                           Welcome to Kearney! 

I just wanted to welcome you to my class and also show you how to start blogging.  I enjoy blogging and like to write, share pictures and links to some of my favorites.  I really enjoy reading your blogs and seeing what you are up to. 

I hope you will take a few minutes a few times a week to come online and blog.  Each week and I am going to ask you to post one of your journal entries online.  Others will be able to view this blog entry and make comments about it.  I would like you to visit other blogs as well and leave comments for your classmates.  Please make sure these comments are kind and positive.

Down the Home Stretch!

I bet you didn't know I love penguins! They are my favorite animal.

Can you believe we are talking about the final TOEFL and the last timed writing? I can't either! It has been a wonderful semester. I hope you think so too! We have accomplished many things with our writing and I think that most of you are able to write some pretty amazing essays. Thank you.

A few end of semester details:

Please be sure I have your cause and effect essay and that you have blogged a total of 12 times.

TOEFL--Monday, 4/23--starts at 8:30 AM--be there at 8:15 AM!

Tuesday--Poetry writing! So fun!
Thursday--Last timed writing--Our final!

Tuesday, May 1, please come to class between 2-3 PM! You will receive your final papers back for writing and you can talk to me about the corrections!

Upcoming Events

Dear 303A Students:

I want you to know how passionate I am about my teaching! I love teaching International Students English! I do! I hope and pray that you will soon learn to have that same desire!

To be a successful class we need to work together. Many of you are coming to class and are prepared. But, many of you are not! I am going to ask that you put forth extra effort to be awake and ready for my class with the following:

Your book; paper; pencils and pens and YOUR HOMEWORK! This is key!


I wish you good luck on the TOEFL on Monday, March 5th and hope that I will see you on Sunday at the International Food and Cultural Festival!

I am so grateful that you have chosen to study here at UNK!

Follow up to "The Game Plan"

I hope you are enjoying watching "The Game Plan" in our class. I think it was your lucky day that I have been sick. This allowed me to move our movie day up to this week. Remember, as you watch the movie please be looking for a paragraph that you can write about it. You may write a descriptive paragraph, a contrast or comparison paragraph or a cause and effect paragraph. I see so many options for you with this movie.

You may want to bring a little snack or a nice pillow to class on Thursday and make yourself at home! :) I know I want to come comfortable to class so I can sit back and enjoy the show!

Who is your favorite character? Would you drink that "smoothie" with tuna and raw eggs in it? I don't know if I could.

Happy Valentine's Day!

To my students! Happy Valentine's Day to you! I hope you are enjoying your time in writing class.I know that sometimes writing, grammar and all that goes with the process can be quite boring and take a lot of time! Be patient! What I am trying to teach you will be important to you as you go on to UNK! Your professors will need you and expect you to be good writers. How is your comparison paragraph coming? How do you think you did on the descriptive paragraph? I hope that you are enjoying blogging and reading what each other has posted. Its' fun!

Enjoy the evening and I will see you again on Thursday! I am glad we made the move to stay in Otto Olsen for two classes. It is working much better for me!

I am busy grading your papers. I have been very impressed with your time-writings about your favorite movie category. Many of you like action movies and many of you like romance movies. I think we should work toward a movie day in class. Let's plan it! What movie should we watch? Maybe we can watch a movie and then write about it! Sounds great to me!
